Great music, great pressing...
Loved the music.. I'm no black crowes expert, but the music is a bit different from the tunes that have made them famous. Still, it's really enjoyable... this is a long lp set, but i never once have wanted to not listen all the way through. production quality is excellent... this album is recorded very well, the cover is nice heavy paper and both lps are colored -- one green and one white in my copy. The vinyl is quiet, no extra pops or distractions, no problems with sibilance or eq - bass is tight and there, high end is clear, vocals are extremely real sounding with none of that fake reverb to give it "space." Great for showing off the hi-fi and great for just listening. highly recommended.
What can you say about "The Crowes"?!?!
Pre-Ordered this CD. Glad I got it on Friday instead of Tuesday when it was "officially" released! WONDERFUL CD!!! Cannot say enough about it or the "bonus" second CD! I think "Until the freeze" is better than than "Frost"! Well worth $12.00 for both! CROWES FANS ENJOY!
What happened to the black crowes??
First of all let me say that I've been a huge black crowes fan since the beginning but this one is tough to listen to. Instead of the rolling stones classic blues/rock sound I've gotten used to this one sounds like a bluegrass disc to me. If you're expecting to hear a rock disc don't bother with this one. The band still sounds great and there are some good moments such as train and the last place that loves lives but much of this is very boring and far from rock and roll. Until the freeze is pretty awful and there isn't much on it worth listening to. Thankfully they give you that for free. Maybe the band will get back to their classic sound and release some of the rock and roll I've expected. Hopefully they will put a little time into the next release and give us some songs like struttin blues and stop kickin my heart around. I would have to say that this is my least favorite crowes disc (I didn't think it could get much worse than three snakes). If you're a die hard fan it's worth it, but I have a feeling 10 years from now this won't be in any rotation for me.

The Crowes are back!
I've always liked the Black Crowes, but when I read that Luther Dickinson (the MAN on guitar) joined them, for me it was the birth of a supergroup! However, I was a little disappointed with their first effort with him, Warpaint. It's good, but for me it doesn't rank up there with the best of the Crowes' albums--the songs just weren't as good as I expected. With Before The Frost, though, things are now as I anticipated before buying Warpaint--great songs, and great guitar contributions from Luther D. The only anomaly of the tracks on this CD is the disco-y "I Ain't Hiding". Pretty cool, but a lot different than all the other tracks. Some slow and acoustic numbers here--it's not all hard rockin', but there are some hard rockers on there, for sure.
Rich Robinson also contributes great guitar work, and Chris Robinson's vocals are as strong as ever. Hats off to a band that hasn't given up making great music in an industry that has practically gone down the drain!
I hope that Luther D. keeps the North Mississippi Allstars going on the side, but his time is well spent here! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
