Reviews:
True Rythym and Blues This Soundtrack is extraordinary! After seeing the movie 7 times just to hear the songs I decided to purchase this. Never been a Beyonce fan, but she truly shines singing these oldies. All the songs are wonderful. It will really take you back, even if your not from that time and place, I'm only 27 and these songs are on my most played on my iPod. This is definitely bonafide soul music. Set back, close your eyes, and try not to cry as you reminisce. Enjoy! Fun but look out for originals first... Surprisingly effective and enjoyable musical re-telling of story about legendary "Chess records".
To be honest,I must admit that I was dead set against it,expecting the worst, but it turned out to be not bad at all. Everyone familiar with originals will get a kick from energy and enthusiasm these kids show towards their ancestors - surely, some songs fare better than others ("Bridging the Gap" is awful experiment that combines rural blues and rap?) and Beyonce is completely wrong for the role of Etta James, but besides few nit-pickings the whole soundtracks works out just fine.
Some material is kept close to originals, others (Chuck Berry's "Nadine") turned a bit around but it's sort of modernized "Chess" sound and great fun.
The best thing about the soundtrack and the movie is that young cinema-goers might look out for the originals after they hear this. Love It! Great music. Love Beyonce's version of Etta's songs. Produce as described and timely shipping. Review for soundtrack of "Cadillac Records" It's no surprise that R&B singer Beyonce Knowles has become a little predictable in her acting and singing careers. As with any popular Artist, she can be a little predictable without coming across as cliche. Her newest acting effort was in a 2008 film called "Cadillac Records" also starring Adrien Brody. While Beyonce is no Streisand, she has managed to gain a formitable career in both acting and singing. With sales of her first 2 albums and #1 movies under her belt, she has become one of the top stars of the 2000-2010 decade. Her newest effort on the soundtrack to the movie "Cadillac Records" showcases Beyonce Knowles at her best. Her cover of Etta James's classic "At Last"is most noteably a highlight. She covers the song with soul and passion and almost tops the
classic Etta James version. The other songs by Beyonce are also a highlight as it shows a more old-fashioned side to her. Her younger sister Solange contributes to the soundtrack with the single-worthy "6 AM Blues." Her mix of funk and R&B will capture the listener like no other song on the soundtrack. Raphiel Saadiq's song "Let's Take A Walk" is also one of the soundtrack's highlights. This could very well be the best soundtrack from 2008 even if the movie wasn't as sucessful as some of Beyonce's other films. Some Good, Some Not So Good Overall the performances were pretty good, but some were lacking. I thought the Chuck Berry stuff was very poor. It was slower than the real versions and the actor was not convincing enough. Thought Beyonce was excellent while the others were mediocre. That being said I'm stuck in the middle and give it 3 stars. |
