Reviews:
Imogen, refreshingly different
I have to say that had I not heard about this record on NPR there is every likelihood that it would have slipped through the cracks for me. The story about the journey to record this album and her artistry compelled me to want to listen and I'm glad that I did! In today's crowded sonic airwaves, filled with "boy-bands" and "pop-tarts" its refreshing to hear someone different; an artist who must know that she's not going to be featured in a Best Buy or Target circular but pours herself into the music. I like this album, its atmospheric, something to play on these introspective Fall days. Imogen delivers a record that you don't have to "try" to like but rather one that you immediately feel you are a part of; there is nothing profound, nor are there cliché anthems; simply strong musical artistry, and for me, I can ask for little more. A pleasure!
Too safe, better live
Very simply, I bought this on the strength of seeing her live on a coupla of YouTube show clips, and frankly this is way too safe and calm, live she is electric and amazing, this is mundane and flat comparatively, and I am disappointed.
Songs are good, execution is good, production is fine, but the whole thing comes off as a safe attempt so the label will be happy, and suffers for it.
Not as immediately catchy as her prior titles, but VERY good
Ms. Heap's earlier efforts had better 'hooks', the little ditties that you hum to yourself afterward. This album is much more relaxed, and doesn't have earworms in quite the same way. But it's really quite lovely to listen to, and given some time for the subtler melodies to sink in, has ended up being just as worthy as the earlier albums. It just took a little longer for its value to become apparent to a relative music illiterate. :)
Growing on Me
Product arrived quickly, in good condition, and I've had no issues
Imogen Heap's new album is a slow to warm up album...I had been anticipating this album for a long time, but it is taking a while for the songs to grow on me.
pleasant..
Another nice entry from ms. Heap. Not as exciting as I Megaphone but enough interesting stuff to warrant 4 stars
