      Kamaal the Abstract

Prodcut Description: [More Information ...]
2009 release from the acclaimed rapper and former member of A Tribe Called Quest. This long-delayed album, slated originally for release in 2001, is finally dropping! A musical hybrid, Kamaal was commendably avant-garde at the time of its creation. Amazingly, it's even more apropos in 2009; given the dearth of musical merit and capable MCs in today's Hip Hop, the time is ever-so-right for Tip. Kamaal the Abstract is an intensely idiosyncratic and revealing record. To that end, Q-Tip produced the entire album himself, even playing several instruments. What comes from Kamaal is daring m‚lange of Soul, supa-cool Jazz, head-nodding Hip Hop, and organic Pop magic in the vein of Stevie Wonder or Prince.

Reviews:

VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!!
I do like jazz BUT from jazz artist. Q-tip has that unique voice and it has been awhile since Q-tip has put something out there and I was really looking forward to that Q-tip style, don't get me wrong I do like Q-tip because he is a deep lyrist and I wanted the Q-tip vibe!!!!

Ahead of his time.
This was supposed to be his second album intended to be released years ago. This album has a smooth jazz sound to it and I absolutely love it when I pop this CD in to go drive at night. It's definitely a keeper.

Might be good this album did not come out earlier
This album is very good. It is really Funky though. Not as much lyricism as ATCQ albums, but it is still amazing. Mostly live band stuff, this is a very very funky funky album. It has a lot of jazz elements and groove to it. I think that if this album had came out on its original due date, it may not have been that well received. I really think this album is for true music lovers.

Very cool ABSTRACTionisms
"Kamaal the Abstract" is a stunning piece of work. It should have been released by scary ass (and out of touch, in my estimation) Antonio Reid years ago like Q-Tip intended, but despite that, this album is a killer. I love all these songs, though I have great affection for "Blue Girl," especially the last 20 or so seconds, which make me want wish I were a [...] MC!!!! Q-Tip is one of a kind, an honest to goodness true innovator!!

Nice but not lost some luster........
I must say that I was really anticipating something a little more than what I heard. Being from Chicago and deep into the house scene, some of the beats just didn't do it for me. I'm more a beats guy than lyrics and if the beat is not hitting then nothing else matters. Q-Tip is a hell of a lyricist and yes I've always purchase what he's put out even with A Tribe Called Quest, but I forced myself into trying to listen to the entire album. "Blue Girl" and "Even If It Is So" has a nice beat that you can throw on a party and just sit back and bounce your head to. The beats are nice and relaxing and something I can just chill with. Yes everyone has there own opinion about what they like but for me it wasn't what I was expecting.
