2009 release from the Alt-Rockers, the follow up to their smash album Vena Sera (2007). Formed in 1995, the Chicago-based band has remained a staple in the Rock scene with six Top 5 Modern Rock hits under their belt, including the #1 songs "Send the Pain Below" and "Vitamin R (Leading Us Along)" as well as fan favourites, "The Red" and "The Clincher". The band is made up of Pete Loeffler (vocals, guitars), brother Sam Loeffler (drums), and brother-in-law Dean Bernardini (bass). Chevelle's 2009 album is the work of a band taking stock of itself after a strenuous decade of recording and touring.

Going back to Their Roots
I own all of the Chevelle albums, and I would say this album sounds like a cross between Point #1 and Wonder Whats Next, with a little bit of the other two sprinkled in. The vocals got more of that raw and live kind of sound that Point #1 had. It is one of the first albums that actually have a couple of smaller guitar solos in it. This is not the heaviest album Chevelle has made, but it definately is one of their best with catchy hooks. If you are a Chevelle fan, you will love this album. Buy it
Probably the biggest dissapointment of the year for me.
Im gonna start this review saying that ive liked everything that chevelle has come out with. All of there albums are solid.Point #1 thru Vena Sera.Even the Live album was awesome. So needless to say I was REALLY looking forward to this album.I heard "Jars" on the radio and i said to myself,This album has to be good because they didnt release one of the slower songs first. So I rush to the store the day it came out.get in my car,put the disc in the cd player and im hit with complete shock."Sleep Apnea" The first track is completely awesome.as im listening to it i couldnt wait to here the next one "Mexican Sun".This is a decent track.but it sounded like it could be a left over from "Wonder Whats Next".Then comes "Shameless Metaphors",never did like chevelle's slower songs,Except for Vena Sera,I dont think there is a song on that album I dont like."Jars" is up next, awesome song. Now as for the rest of the album, completely dissapointing.Everything sounds rushed,It doesnt seam like they spent enough time on these songs.I can here potential in all the songs like "Roswells Spell",This song had potential to be an awesome Groove song, but 48 seconds into the song i said to myself WTF chevelle. There will be some that like the album, but with time ppl will eventually realize that compared to there past stuff, this album doesnt hold up.Ive listened to this album 10 times since ive bought it.None of the songs have grown on me.""Sleep Apnea" "Mexican Sun" and "Jars",the rest of the song is filler and uninspired.Do I think Chevelle lost there fire? No I dont,I believe their best is yet to come.Every band makes a bad album, there is no way around it.Im glad I bought this album, because I know the next one cant be worse than this.
Sci-Fi Crimes Album Review
If you have heard any of the last three Chevelle albums, you will know that they are a major force in rock/alternative at this point in time. With the latest album "Sci Fi Crimes" they continue to use their own unique sound and pound out another excellent album. Chevelle has now put out four or five consistant albums that are nothing short of great music, the four or five depends on how you like their first album. In alternative rock, if you can consistantly put out four great albums and your band hasn't broken up, you are doing what a lot of bands just can't do these days. If you are a Chevelle fan, this is defintely an album to pick up and one that meets the criteria for another solid album!
"...same as it ever was...yes!"
There are but only a handful of bands within my music collection that I can honestly say never seem to let me down and Chevelle is most definitely one of them. When you listen to any one of their recordings you get what you paid for and they bring it tenfold. This newest accomplishment comes with all the punch that we have come to expect from this band. I have always marveled at how much sound this band produces with three people! The music seems to be layer upon layer of finely crafted hard rock and even though one song might sound like another...there is some simple arrangement that makes it different. With that distinctive chorus "yowl" you know you are listening to Chevelle and it is soooo friggin' good! (Do not copy bands CD's...it is their livelyhood and it's illegal!)
Chevelle's Best Work to Date
I will preface this by saying I'm a HUGE Chevelle fan and my initial excitement for the release of Sci-Fi Crimes waned after I began to read (and believe) that the band's sound had changed...for the worse. A track and a half into the album put my fears to rest as this is easily their most polished and thorough piece of work to date. The trio has done nothing but refine their sound to the point where I honestly feel the sky is the limit for these guys. Do yourself a favor and buy this record.
