Hard rock producer Paul O'Neill, renowned for his work with Aerosmith and Savatage, teamed with the latter band's Jon Oliva to create Trans-Siberian Orchestra, an inspired fusion of classical music and rock-opera pageantry. Their first two releases are visionary and timeless Christmas-themed concept albums, spotlighting lead guitars and classical string sections alike, and they became instant contemporary holiday classics. 2004's The Lost Christmas Eve, which completes their symphonic rock Yuletide triology, underscores Billboard's recent comment that TSO "seems to be turning into a Christmas tradition."

TSO kicks Christmas in it's tired old butt
I'm not a huge fan of the commercialism of Christmas, or the mistakes in exactly WHAT it is that people are celebrating. Even the fact that 99% of people celebrating Christmas, don't attend Church on a regular basis, or the fact that Christmas was actually stolen from the pagans. Christmas carols have always bugged the [...] out of me because they are supposed to be warm and fuzzy and that just isn't how it always is. however, TSO brings some fresh air to Christmas music by bringing it to life. This is NOT your grand parents Christmas. While each CD does offer some soft music for the older and younger people, it also has some fast-paced hard music for the teen and young adult people. The combination of the three CHristmasn albums is wonderful as you don't have to spent $20 odd on each CD individually. Get all three at once. The DVD flows along the same lines at the CD's do. the DVD is NOT a live concert of TSO. It is a Christmas story of a runaway girl who has an experiance at an old theater with a kind hearted caretaker. However, the music is wonderful and it makes you feel "All warm and fuzzy inside". Al together it is a good set.

The new Christmas Classic for all year round
I was suspicious of Christmas music done by a bunch of rockers since Christmas is joyful, but reverent, for me. "The Christmas Trilogy" fits that balance beautifully, with upbeat, complex, and diverse tunes that don't get stale or annoying after listening to them over and over. The songs with lyrics are profound at times, and reflective of the deep meanings of Christmas, while balancing that with celebration in other songs. We find this set has become not just a modern "Christmas" classic for us, but one we enjoy all year round.
Excellent Christmas Music
After more than 50 years of listening to mostly 'traditional Christmas music', I decided to try something 'different'.Trans-Siberian Orchestra certainly fit the bill. I highly recoment this set if you too find you are in need for a Christmas change.
