Comedian, actor, author, and banjo player Steve Martin releases his first musical recording since 1978's number 1 hit "King Tut." This is no novelty record though. It's some of the best banjo music to come down the pike in a long time. The Crow features able assistance from some of Steve's pals, including Dolly Parton, Vince Gill, Earl Scruggs, Bela Fleck, Tim O'Brien and Mary Black. Martin wrote or co-wrote all of the songs on this album, creating a new body of work that will stand alongside the classics for years to come.

Upbeat and Happy!
This CD is a winner! Steve Martin proves he is multi-talented. Not only is he one of the funniest comics on the planet and a darned good actor, but he can pick a mean banjo. The songs on the CD are all upbeat and the urge to tap your toes is irresistable. It's definitely a mood lifter!
One of the All Time Best Ever Album Covers
If you enjoy banjo music (and who doesn't?), you will love this CD! I am listening to it over and over again in my car, since it livens up my dreary, hour-long commutes to and from a job I would quit in a minute if I won the lottery. The Crow has earned a place with Not All Who Wander Are Lost and Into The Cauldron, a couple of my favorite newgrass albums. Hey, it might even fit on the shelf with my Beatles and Led Zeppelin CDs.
To my tastes, the instrumentals on this album are truly great but the four actual songs are pleasant but still its weakest points. The first, Daddy Played the Banjo, makes a nice introduction to the album as a whole but is a bit too sentimental. Late For School demonstrates that Martin has a great future making albums for children. Pretty Flowers seems to be missing the middle verse. And Calico Train, by far the strongest song, shows its author at his very best when writing from a woman's perspective.
I hope Steve Martin creates another such album. We would love to hear from him again. I also hope he writes songs about his own personal, humorous perspectives next time. (If I were him, I would write tunes with titles like Saturday Morning Cartoons, LA Freeway, and Repetitive Motion Disorder.)

Unexpected Delight
I saw Steve Martin on Ellen DeGeneres's talk show playing a song from this collection and immediately ordered it. It's even better than I thought it would be, one charming, toe-tapping number after another, and lots of terrific guest artists like Dolly Parton. Moreover, it turns out that every single 'old-timey' song was written by Martin himself. I knew he was, in fact, an accomplished musician, but I had no idea just how good and authentic he was.
This album is fun for everyone and I recommend it highly.
FUN!!!!!
I am most definitely NOT an enthusiast of banjo music, but I had heard a selection of this album on TV and I liked it. I don't listen to it often, but there are a few songs on it that I find I bring up on my iPod every few days. It's fun, light, and entertaining. It's different! Everybody who hears it asks me where I bought it.
Amazing Gift!
My dad never likes any of the presents we give him. He will usually ask for the receipt so he can return the gift. When I handed him this gift, he gave the usual sarcastic, "Thanks." Then he realized what it actually was (once he put his glasses on!) and he was ecstatic! I was so excited to have finally found something that he liked!!!
