Prodcut Description: [More Information ...] Where Off the Wall was pretty much straight good times, Thriller introduced dread into Michael Jackson's solo work. By 1995's HIStory, this element curdled into overwhelming self-regard and out-of-touchness, but here it's bracing. While Thriller offers its share of cute ("The Girl Is Mine," a duet with Paul McCartney that was the album's first single; "P.Y.T."), the most memorable cuts remain "Billie Jean," "Beat It," and "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'," all of which meld musical imagination and worried-mind lyrics. There's also the title track, which takes a cue from Parliament's concept pieces in employing Vincent Price to warn that nonfunky forces will "terrorize y'all's neighborhood." Thriller, of course, continues to battle with the Eagles' first greatest-hits package for the title of biggest-selling U.S. long-player ever. Bonus material on this edition includes "Someone in the Dark," from Jackson's E.T. children's album, and a Quincy Jones interview in which the producer cites "My Sharona" as the inspiration for "Beat It"--and, even better, the real-life Billie Jean's claim that Michael was "the father of one of her twins." --Rickey Wright

Reviews:
The Essential Album of Michael Jackson You Must Buy I am fans from Hong Kong. I could remember all young people loved to watch the Music Video of "Beat It", nobody would get away when this MV was broadcasting on the T.V. We in Hong Kong all loved this MV, most of people here would impersonate his dancing; wearing the pant with disclosing the white sock like him. Everybody nomatter you listen his songs or not, you MIGHT know WHO Michael Jackson was. Michaelmania was spread over the world at that time.
Needless to say, "Thriller" is the essential album you must buy, most of the songs in this album are great and popular. Of course, I love the most is "Billie Jean", but others are also great, such as
"Wanna Be Starting Something", "Human Nature" and etc.... I almost love all.
This album was a milestone of Michael to be the Superstar all over the world. I do not need to talk too much, I think all people know this. I think most of the people should have this CD at home.
Michael, LOVE YOU FOREVER, You are the greatest Artist in this earth. Nobody can replace you. It's the best-selling album of all time for a reason Michael Jackson was an amazing artist. Granted he did kinda go freakoid after a while, but I'm not going to go over that. His legendary album Thriller is simply awesome. I'm a big fan of 80s pop, so I especially like songs like Thriller or PYT.
However, I am not a big fan of the special edition of this album. The original album had nine songs. This has all of those classics, but you get much more than that. A little too much more than that. The special edition comes with a bunch of interviews with producers and writers and whatnot. I'm not all that into those, though you might find it interesting. It also comes with one or two unreleased songs and a different take on Billy Jean. My favorite non-song on this CD is a practice session of the "rap" Vincent Price says in Thriller, which contains the entire poem (they cut out a verse for the final version of the song).
Overall I urge you to by Thriller, but don't get the special edition if you can help it. All the interviews kinda suffocate the songs. Best CD Ever This CD is truley my favorite....I love the up beat rock rhythms, and the fabulous way Michael blesses each song with his unique vocals....
Truly the King of Pop
R.I.P Mike
Incredible -- easily one of the best albums I've ever heard in my life If anyone ever doubted me when I told them that I tend to get into various movies, music, and computer games YEARS after they came out and after their initial craze had faded away, they can doubt no more when I tell them that only this summer I happened to pick up a copy of Thriller -- inspired by the passing of Michael Jackson -- and fell in love with it. Every single song is masterful, from the pulsating "Wanna Be Starting Something" to the closing "Lady in my Life." So many songs are just mindblowing: the combination of a horror theme with dance pop in the song "Thriller" is masterful and mindblowing. The rivalrous duet between Jackson and Paul McCartney on "The Girl is Mine" never ceases to bring a smile to my face. "Billie Jean" and "Beat It", of course, are timeless classics. One incredibly understated song on here is "Human Nature", which features a vocal wail during its main theme that could melt your soul -- incredibly sad, soulful, and powerful.
Wanna Be Startin' Something 10/10
Baby Be Mine 9.5/10
The Girl is Mine 9.5/10
Thriller 10/10
Beat It 10/10

Human Nature 9.5/10
P.Y.T. 9/10
The Lady in my Life 9/10
A masterpiece. You will be missed, Mike! What can I say? You already know this album, just buy it again on re-mastered CD. It's not the world's best selling album for nothing - as influential on pop as probably Sgt Pepper. I still can't believe he's gone. God Bless you Michael. |
