Prodcut Description: [More Information ...] While listening to filmmaker David Lynch speak at the BAFTA Awards in February 2008, Moby had an epiphany. Lynch's message- creativity for its own sake is a beautiful, wonderful thing- was a simple one, but it hit Moby with the force of the Zen master's cane. "At that moment, I decided to just make records that were more personal," says Moby, "maybe more experimental, and a little more challenging, maybe not as easy to like, but things that I found to be artistically and creatively more satifying. That was the idea behind making the new album." The album resulting from this epiphany, Wait For Me, is a radical departure from Moby's recent albums- last year's paean to the dance floor, Last Night, 2008's flirtation with modern rock, Hotel, the shimmering ambience of 2002's 18, and the zeitgeist-defining melancholy electronica of 1999's Play. Liberated from the pressures of trying to please himself at the same time as the industry, in making Wait For Me Moby decided to forego the expensive studios, state-of-the-art equipment, big name guest artists, and phalanxes of graphic designers and image consultants that have characterized some of his previous albums. "There's something so relaxing about doing everything yourself, and not trying to second-guess the market," Moby says. "It's nice to try to do things for the right reasons- just make a record because you want to make a record."

Reviews:
Pleasantly boring I guess I'm not a Moby fan but I could have just as well played the 30 second sampler over and over again, there's little creativity to be found here. Overall this CD makes me think of the musical score for a chick flick. Moby, Wait for Me Easy listening Cd from Moby. Not too bad, not one of his best, but is a Cd I listen to in the background whilst doing work around the house. Couple of excellent songs on this Cd with a couple of others a bit ordinary. Certainly an individual taste this Cd. It sounds like a bad score Moby has many different sounds. Between his albums, he's dipped into genres like ambient, chill, house, pop, and even rock. I wasn't sure what this album would sound like because you never know what he might come out with. I was really dissapointed to find out that this one sounds like a score to a serious dramatic movie. There's really no other way to describe this album. All the songs sound like they're from a heartbreaking scene from a love flick. Almost every song has very little drums and a dark, generic orchestra sound. If you love the upbeat moby albums, this one's far from that. Review of 'Wait For Me' by Moby A truly superb CD for those who prefer the cruisey, moodier side of Moby ('Porcelain' for example, from his other CD's)and are entertained by his characteristically wide variance of style between tracks. This is one that I instantly liked and just grew and grew on me; with several tracks that keep 'haunting' me, playing over & over in my mind!Wait For Me Another Wonderful Moby Album While the description describes "Wait For Me" as a radical departure from recent albums, I think this work blends a lot of Play with Hotel and extends into new territory. It certainly is a departure from Last Night, which did move Moby's work back to night club music as advertised. Not that I did not also enjoy that album as well. But this one is more my style. It gets better with every listen.
However, I really want to make the point here to not be put off by the description of this album and how differently it was created by Moby. It is still uniquely Moby's sound and will not dissappoint. Enjoy. |
