      Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix

Prodcut Description: [More Information ...]
Vinyl LP pressing. 2009 album from the French Electro-Rockers. Born out of restlessness and a steady hunt for inspiration, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix is a career-defining album filled with the band's signature melding of synthetics and organics, sharp, danceable rhythms, infectious choruses with a considerable dose of aural panache and candy-colored pop sensibilities.

Reviews:

A solid effort
This album is not what I expected - in a review it was said to be "electronic". Given that caveat, I would still say that it's worthwhile. To me it sounds a little like The Strokes, which is interesting because I've always thought of The Strokes as sounding like late Zeppelin. Descendents of descendents?

Can't get enough of Phoenix
In a music world filled with manufactured cookie cutter albums, Phoenix rise above to create a masterpiece of pop. This is one of the most enjoyable albums I have heard in years. Filled with catchy and unique pop songs crafted with sophistication this is an album that will satisfy for years to come. This is a band at the top of their form.

A worthy breakthough
I got introduced to this band via a SNL episode where they were the musical guests. Phoenix? Who was that? Once they started playing, I figured the "who was that?" question would get asked less as time went on. For fans of good pop music, "Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix" is a worthy addition to your collection. All the tunes on here are pretty strong, with the exception of the "Sunset" songs in the middle. For some reason this pair of songs just doesn't do it for me and makes the album sag. All is redeemed when "Lasso" starts up though. Overall, this album is a little quirky and lively without being arty and pretentious (Yacht) or just plain blah (Grizzly Bear). If you really like Phoenix, also check out the group Tahiti 80, a very close cousin to Phoenix's sound (especially their 2002 album "Wallpaper for the Soul"). Too bad the current Auto-Tune craze keeps bands like Phoenix off the air on commercial radio stations.

The new French touch at its best
What to say I already love this group in the past. So far from American Idol crap that stays in the chart for one week and that you forgot after listening to it twice, Phoenix, you discover it every time you listen to their songs again and again. Litzemania song #1 is just amazingly fantastic, please go on you tube to see the non official video: it will stick to your mind all day long. 1901 such a great mix of fusion Sunset... you re in California a beer in hand well, love it

Rock Me Amadeus!! This has got to be the best album of the year, if not the century!!
This latest album by Phoenix is absolutely superb, if not nearly flawless. I first heard the song "Rome" while I was at Barnes and Noble the other day and I immediately said to myself, "Man, I gotta find out who sings this song!" It didn't take me long to find out, since I happened to be right next to the music section. Found out immediately from the clerk that it was Phoenix, did a trial listen to the others songs, and said, "That's it! I'm buying it right now!" This is just one of the aspects that makes this album so amazing--it's seemingly instant addictive appeal. Another amazing aspect about this album, which is very rare these days, is the fact that there are ABSOLUTELY NO FILLERS!! EVERY LAST SONG COULD EASILY BE A GREATEST HIT!! And just when you thought they didn't make such records like they used to. Describing what Phoenix sound like on this album, is somewhat of a challenge, since their sound is rather unique. The best way I can describe the sound is a cross between an electronic voice of Paul McCartney, a little bit of synth rock of "The Killers", mixed with the incredible lush pop sounds of early eighties ELO (Electric Light Orchestra, for those too young to remember), yet mixed with a sound that is all their own. There is really not much more I can say, except that I highly recommend this album to everyone. If anyone is missing the days when albums did not have any fillers and bands that actually had exceptional talent, then go ahead and buy this album. The Phoenix has risen, and will not disappoint.
