The Lectra Sock was originally developed for commercial fishermen but has been reinvented with 1990s technology. The heat output has been increased and the wires and heating unit are now buried in recessed channels in the socks making them invisible to the wearer. A new wool blend has been formulated to provide increased warmth and maximum wicking. The D size alkaline battery(Not Included) provides 4-6 hours of continuous heat, more when used intermittently. Safe and comfortable, the Lectra Socks works even when wet. The heating element is safely buried in a channel located in the toe area. Perfect for outdoor use for hunting, fishing, hiking and all other cold weather activities. These socks are not designed to get extremely hot! They are designed to keep the feet warm thus making it more comfortable to be out in cold weather. The heating element is safely buried in toe area. The socks can be used with rechargeable batteries and will provide shorter 2-3 hours of use.

6 hours of little heat
Not really that warm. The weight of the batteries make the socks slide down. A disappointment.
Very Poor Performance
No wonder these socks are always on "SALE!" I bought a pair to use while skiing. The first time I used them, it took about 30 minutes to feel any heat at all, and it was just barely noticable. The second and third times I tried them, there was no heat at all (with new batteries). The weight of the batteries and the location of the battery pouches guarantees that the socks will not stay up, but will bang against your ankles or lower legs as you walk (or ski). Part of the poor heat problem, I think, is the poorly designed battery connectors which don't make good contact with the positive end of the battery. Don't waste your money.
